Justin Lada's Major League Baseball Power Rankings
Week Ten

1. Chicago Cubs (43-18) (Last rank 1, spots moved ) - It’s been two weeks since these last power rankings. The Cubs went 14-5 in that time. What else needs to be said?

2. Texas Rangers (39-24) (LR 12, +10) - Even Prince Fielder helped steal a victory over Seattle over the weekend as they continue to play big brother to the Mariners this season.

3. Washington Nationals (39-24) (LR 2, -1) - They finally called up Trea Turner. He played well. Then they sent him down. They’re still in first place. Still a bad look though.

4. Boston Red Sox (36-24) (LR4, 0) - If everyone wasn’t making a big deal about how well David Ortiz is playing in his final season, and he is, they’d be talking about Xander Bogaert’s darkhorse MVP candidacy.

5. CLEVELAND INDIANS (35-27) (LR 5, 0) - Already missing Michael Brantley, they dodged injuries to Jose Ramirez, Danny Salazar and Yan Gomes this week and yet they’re 4-3 on a 10 game road trip with a three game lead.

6. Baltimore Orioles (36-26) (LR 6, 0) - Kevin Gausman and Chris Tillman continue to carry a rotation that’s in first place despite a starters ERA of 4.84

7. San Francisco Giants (38-26) (LR 9, +2) - Also somehow sixth in starters ERA despite 6.21 and 5.40 ERAs from Jake Peavy and Matt Cain. Mostly thanks to an ace who also wants to and should be in the HR derby.

8. St. Louis Cardinals (35-28) (LR 11, +3) - 7-3 in their last 10 and all of the sudden leading the way in a wild card spot.

9. Seattle Mariners (34-29) (LR 3, -6) - James Paxton is back throwing 100 and Edwin Diaz might soon be the closer if Steve Cishek blows another game to the Rangers.

10. New York Mets (34-28) (LR 8 ,-2) - If it wasn’t for some guy named Kershaw, Noah Syndergaard might be. They’ll need a new first basemen if they want to overtake the Nationals ever this year.

11. Pittsburgh Pirates (32-31) (LR 10, -1) - Francisco Cervelli’s injury leaves them in a tough spot. But Jamison Tallion had a nice debut and Tyler Glasnow might not be far behind. Might one be trade bait?

12. Toronto Blue Jays (35-30) (LR 15, +3) - Russell Martin has shown signs of life in June. Aaron Sanchez has emerged as an ace and Jason Grilli has fortified the bullpen. Watch out.

13. Detroit Tigers (32-30) (LR 20, +7) - Michael Fulmer is pitching like an ace. Jordan Zimmermann has had some issues and they continue to pay Mike Pelfrey and let him pitch. Nobody is sure why.

14. Los Angeles Dodgers (33-31) (LR 15, +1) - Urias hasn’t saved the rotation besides Kershaw and Maeda but they’re hanging around.

15.Tampa Bay Rays (29-32) (LR 13, -2) - Surviving the losses of Forsythe and Kiemaier won’t be easy especially with Archer is struggling still. Blake Snell is back though, so if any rotation can do it, they can.

16. Kansas City Royals (32-30) (LR 19, +3) - Their supposed best pitcher is off the rails. Alex Gordon is out for a while, Michael Moustakas is out for the year. Royals are going to need more big trades this year to get to a third straight world series.

17. New York Yankees (31-32) (LR 21, +4) - CC Sabathia is pitching well and Carlos Beltran has found the fountain of youth. Don’t look now, but the Yanks are making a push.

18.Houston Astros (30-35) (LR 26, +8) - They’re 10 games out still, but they’re suddenly putting some stretches together and above the other two bad teams in the west.

19. Chicago White Sox (31-32) (LR 7, -12) - They went to Spring Training with big parts being played by Adam LaRoche, John Danks, Mat Latos and Jimmy Rollins. They’re all out. Younger guys are in. James Shields is there, technically. And now Justin Morneau is, sort of. That hot start seems a season ago.

20. Colorado Rockies (30-33) (LR 17, -3) - Jon Gray has been pretty good. Hopefully they can get something, anything for Jose Reyes.

21. Miami Marlins (32-31)(LR16,-5) - Giancarlo Stanton is hitting .192. For however bad judging on batting average is, that’s bad too.

22. Milwaukee Brewers (30-33) (LR 27, +5) - Are they winning too many games? Braun and Lucroy are having tradeable seasons, which is a plus.

23. Philadelphia Phillies (29-34) (LR 14, -9) - The shoe finally dropped and Ryan Howard has lost his job, which actually should be an improvement.

24. Arizona Diamondbacks (28-37) (LR 23, -1) - Shelby Miller is coming back. For what that’s been worth. Michael Bourn has actually played quite well so far.

25. Los Angeles Angels (29-24) (LR 22, -3) - Jeffry Marte has been a nice spot and Huston Street has been so-so since his return. Mirrors the Angels this year.

26. Oakland Athletics (26-36) (LR 25, -1) - Rich Hill getting hurt throws a wrench into their trade plans, probably. They also appeared to have a pretty nice draft.

27. San Diego Padres (26-38) (LR 24, -3) - Drew Pomeranz could command a nice trade return if they decide to go that route. Matt Kemp’s trade value seems overrated and Melvin Upton’s isn’t bad.

28. Cincinnati Reds (24-39) (LR 28, 0) - Billy Hamilton’s OBP is over .300. That should be celebrated.

29. Minnesota Twins (19-43) (LR 30, +1) - Phil Hughes’ big contract is in the bullpen. That should explain why the Twins are where they are now.

30 .Atlanta Braves (18-44) (LR 29, -1) - How long until that new stadium opens that’s taken all the cities money?
