Lake County Captains 2016 coaching staff is set
Tony Mansolino named manager
(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and the Cleveland Indians announced the 2016 Captains field staff today which is led by first-time manager and former Captains hitting coach, Tony Mansolino. Mansolino’s coaching staff will consist of Pitching Coach Steve McCatty, Coach Junior Betances Athletic Trainer Matthew Beauregard and Strength and Conditioning Coach Paul Synenkyj. 

Mansolino, 33, becomes the Captains 11th field manager. He served as the Captains hitting coach in 2013 and is starting his sixth season in the Indians organization with previous stops at Mahoning Valley, Carolina, and last season in Akron. Mansolino played professionally for six seasons as an infielder from 2005-2010 after being selected in the 26th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played four years of baseball at the Vanderbilt University, where he was teammates with Indians Director of Player Development Carter Hawkins and former Indians Pitcher Jensen Lewis. He retired as a player after the 2010 campaign and resides in Nashville.

McCatty, 61, will begin his 20th season as a pitching coach at the professional level and 2016 is his Cleveland Indians Organizational Debut. From 2009-2015, McCatty was the Major League Pitching Coach for the Washington Nationals where he worked with standout moundsmen, including Stephen Strasburg, Max Scherzer, Jordan Zimmerman and Gio Gonzalez.

Steve had an eight-year Major League career with the Oakland Athletics where he went 63-63, with a 3.99 ERA and 541 Strikeouts. He was tied as the AL Wins leader (14) in 1981 with Dennis Martinez, Jack Morris and Pete Vukovich. Off the field, he served as a technical consultant for the Disney movie, "Angels in the Outfield" and currently resides in Michigan.

Betances, 43, will be a coach with the Captains in 2016, his first in Lake County, continuing a career with the Indians organization that has spanned over 20 years as a coach, player or executive. Junior was the manager of the DSL Indians from 2002-2005. He was the hitting coach in the Arizona League last season.

Beauregard returns to the Captains for his third season and sixth in the Cleveland Indians Organization as an Athletic Trainer. Previously he spent three seasons as the athletic trainer for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the New York Penn League. Prior to the Indians, he was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for the University of Alabama at Birmingham baseball team, where he received a M.S. degree in Exercise Physiology in 2010. A Center Point, Iowa native, Beauregard graduated from Iowa State University (Ames, IA) in 2007, with a B.S. in Athletic Training. During the offseason, Matthew resides in Arizona and assists with offseason rehabilitation programs at the Cleveland Indians Player Development Complex.
Synenkyj returns to the Captains where he was the Strength and Conditioning coach in 2013 & 2014 seasons, as well as in 2010. Paul received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cleveland State University, and later a master’s degree in physical education from The University of Akron. Paul is currently in his sixth season as a Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Indians. He has also served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Cleveland State. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
