Captains drop second straight to West Michigan 6-2

The The Lake County Captains were attempting to get back on track as they dropped Friday night's affair with the Whitecaps ending their three-game winning. Things did not go well however as the Captains dropped their second straight to the White caps, tonight by a final score of 6-2 in front of a nice crowd of 4,475.

The Whitecaps got on the board early in the second inning with two runs off Captains starter Aaron Civale.

The Captains struck back in the bottom of the second inning with a single run off West Michigan starter Gregory Soto. The inning began when Conner Capel doubled sharply to right field. With Jose Vincente at the plate Soto uncorked a wild pitch moving Capel to third base. Capel then scored the Captains first run when Vincente grounded out. With the run the Captains cut the lead to 2-1.

The Whitecaps extended the lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning when they tallied two more runs off Civale.

West Michigan knocked Civale out of the game in the seventh inning. The Whitecaps scored two runs in the inning, one run was charged to Civale and the other to Captains reliever Ben Krauth who relieved Civale with one out in the inning, giving the Whitecaps a 6-1 advantage.

The Captains put one more run on the board in the bottom of the ninth inning. Capel double to center field and was driven home three hitters later when Todd Isaacs hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Capel who had previously advanced to third scored. The RBI by Isaacs made the score 6-2 which ended up as the eventual final.

Three Captains Alexis Pantoja, Li-Jen Chu and Capel had two hit games as the Captains had seven hits. The only other Captains to get a hit was Jose Vicente with a single.

Soto, got the win for the Whitecaps with seven innings of work. In the seven innings Soto allowed one run, it was earned on five hits, he issued one base on balls and struck an impressive 12 Captains hitters. With the win, he improves to 4-0 with a 1.26 ERA

The two teams wrap up the four-game series on Sunday afternoon with a 1:30 p.m. start. Spenser Watkins will make the start for the Whitecaps. Watkins, a righty is 1-2 with a 2.70 ERA. The Captains will send Brady Aiken to the hill. Aiken, a southpaw is 1-6 with a 4.50 ERA.
