Storm Volleyball moves to 10-3 with 3-0 sweep of Ursuline College
(PEPPER PIKE, OH) - The Lake Erie College volleyball team picked their tenth victory of the season on Tuesday (Sept. 19) night in a Great Midwest matchup with the Ursuline College Arrows.

The Storm improved to 10-3 with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-7, 25-23) sweep over the Arrows.

Ursuline came out of the gates firing as the Arrows gained a 9-2 advantage in the first set. Ursuline continued to provide pressure as they pushed the lead to as many as ten. After Ursuline gained a 15-5 lead, Lake Erie started to gain momentum. A block by Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Dalton) and Lexi Lombardo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) forced a timeout by Ursuline with the deficit slimmed to four. Out of the timeout, the Storm continued to chip away at the lead. Lake Erie tied the set at 17 with another combined block from Fisher and Lombardo. Ursuline regained an advantage at 21-19 but the Storm scored six of the next seven points to win the set 25-22. Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) ended the set with her second kill of the set.

The second set was all Storm as Lake Erie scored 16 of the first 17 points of the set. Lake Erie led by as many as 18 in the set, winning the second set 25-7.

The Arrows jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the final set. The Storm took advantage of some Ursuline errors that allowed the set to be tied at nine. Ursuline regained a four point lead in the set at 17-13. Lake Erie fought back and tied the set at 21, forcing an Arrows timeout. A Lombardo kill capped off the Storm's second come-from-behind set win of the night. Lake Erie won 25-23 in the final set.

Fisher led the Storm with ten kills in the match. Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) added eight kills while Lombardo finished with six kills, two solo blocks and two block assists. Hallie Zumack (Independence, Ohio / Independence) assisted on 14 points with Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield) assisting on 13. Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) had 12 digs and three service aces in the contest.

Lake Erie will continue Great Midwest play this weekend with road matches against Cedarville and Ohio Dominican.
