Golden Flashes Pendrith named MAC Golfer of the Week
(KENT, OH) - Kent State sophomore Taylor Pendrith was named the Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week after finishing runner-up at the Barona Collegiate Cup this past week.
Pendrith's 54-hole score of 205 (-11; 66-72-68) tied for the fourth lowest in school history and paced the Golden Flashes to a 1067 (-13; 343-367-357) in a rare count-five format. In a field that featured nine teams ranked in the top 50, Pendrith led No. 23/26 Kent State to fifth place in the team standings. Pendrith, who was three back of the leader J.J. Spaun of San Diego State, capped off his finest tournament as a collegian with a tidy 68 (-4) on Friday that included four birdies and no bogeys. It was his second sub-70 round of the tournament coupled with a 65 (-7) on Thursday.
On the year the Kent State sophomore has six top 25 finishes in eight events and ranks No. 78 in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.
Kent State will return to action on March 30 at the Irish Creek Collegiate in Charlotte, North Carolina. The event will be held at the Irish Creek Country Club. firstname.lastname@example.org or follow us on Twitter @SportsSentinel POSTED 03/28/2012 22:27
