Indians developmental league update
Arizona Fall League
Tyler Holt 1-5 SB 3Ks. Holt has a hit in four of his last five games and has his OBP up to a nice .381. He also is 3/4 on stolen base attempts. He does have yet to record an extra base hit however.
Alex Monsalve 0-3 2Ks Went 1/3 throwing out runners stealing. Monsalve continues to take his lumps in a league that’s a little bit older than him. The experience thought could help him grow as he should return to Carolina in 2013.
Ronny Rodriguez (10/24) 2-4 3B 1B R Ronny has four hits in his last two games played, including two extra base hits. He still has yet to work a walk this fall, however and has seven strikeouts. He doesn’t need to work on his plate discipline, but the last two games have been a sign of improvement offensively speaking.
Trey Haley (10/24) 1 IP 1 H Haley has five straight scoreless innings after allowing two runs in his first outing. The 3 walks in six innings isn’t great, and he only has one strikeout so far, but it shows Haley is pitching more to contact, which shows some improvement in his control.
Venezuelan Winter League
Jesus Aguilar 0-2 K Aguilar has a 17/2 K/BB ratio, which is a bit alarming and has struck out all but one game this winter. He did hit his first home run the other day and is slugging .424. There is still time and room for Aguilar to grow, this year of development could be a big one for him.
Dominican Winter League
Tim Fedroff 1-5 CS/PO Fedroff kept his hitting streak alive but had a bad day on the base paths. I’ve been saying every day this fall that if Fedroff wants a shot at getting to the bigs as a top of the order bat, which is where he profiles with his ability to get on base being his best skill, he has to show a little better skill on the bases. He’s a smart runner and is athletic, but doesn’t steal a ton of bases and didn’t have the best day doing both.
On another minor league note, the Indians promoted AAA Columbus Clippers Manager, Mike Sarbaugh, to the big club, becoming the Indians 1st base coach. Sarbaugh won the International league title and Governors’ Cup two straight years with the Clippers. He made the playoffs at every step of the minor leagues except for Lake County. His record as a minor league manager is 697-511 (.577) He has been with the Cleveland Indians as a player, coach or manager since 1990.
