Indians developmental league update; AFL All-Star edition
The Arizona Fall League hosted their annual Rising Stars All-Star game. The East beat the West convincingly 9-4, with a pair of Indians seeing action on the East team.
C Alex Monsalve (0-1) In his only at bat of the game, he swung at the first pitch and grounded out to the shortstop. He got some high words of praise defensively from the broadcast team. He did catch teammate Trey Haley in the game too, not that it offered much help.
RHP Trey Haley (0.1 IP, BB, H) Haley was all over the place with his command. A number of scouts were at the game, one had this take on the Indians 2nd round pick in 2006:
“He has the velocity but his arm action is causing total loss of command. Not finishing pitches. All over the place”,
The same scout also said the slight pause in his delivery is effecting his control but, “it's also getting his arm in almost a "whip" action that throws off his finish. Too straight then”
Haley has been getting outs this fall, mostly groundouts using his two seam. But his control varies from outing to outing and sometimes, batter to batter.
Venezuelan Winter League
Leones del Caracas
1B Jesus Aguilar (1-1 2B) After a week and a half off, Aguilar returned to his winter ball club and came up with a pinch hit double in the eighth inning. After struggling, striking out 18 times in 11 games, it would be nice to see Aguilar end the fall league on a high note.
Dominican Winter League
Aguilas Cibaenas
OF Tim Fedroff (1-4 BB K) Fedroff hit second for the second straight game and played left. Hopefully he can work on a few things in that two hole and get his on base percentage back up, which is his best asset.
