(SOUTH BEND, IN) - The Lake County Captains (26-23, 57-61) defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks (25-24, 60-59) by a final of 10-6. Lake County scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to break the 3-3 tie. With two outs, Jerrud Sabourin walked, and Bryson Myles reached on an error and then Jake Lowery pummeled a homer to centerfield and the Captains took the 6-3 lead.
Lake County scored first in the bottom of the opening frame. A two-out double by Sabourin scored Jose Ramirez. Sabourin himself later crossed home plate when Bryson Myles singled to right field. The Captains were up a pair in the middle of the first inning.
South Bend sent eight men to the plate and scored three times in the bottom half of the second inning. The bases were loaded and no one was out when Roidany Aguila singled home two runs to tie the ballgame. Bryan Henry then singled home another run and the lead was 3-2 South Bend.
Lake County tied the game in the fourth inning when Leonardo Castillo singled and moved to second on a walk and took third on a passed ball. Yhoxian Medina hit a sacrifice fly to right field and the Captains tied the ballgame.
In the top of the sixth, Lake County lead 6-3 and was looking to add on. The Captains scored three more runs. Alex Lavisky singled and later scored on a two out double by Luigi Rodriguez. Luigi scored on a single by Jordan Smith and Jerrud Sabourin singled home Smith and the Captains led the game 9-3.
In the bottom of the sixth, South Bend scored a run. Matt Helm doubled and later scored on a Ryan Court ground out and the lead was trimmed to 9-4. Lake County scored a run in the top of the seventh inning when Jake Lowery single and scored on an error. The score was 10-4.
South Bend scored their final two runs in the eighth inning. Tom Belza walked and Ryan Cort singled Belza to third. Belza scored on a wild pitch. Aguila singled home another run and the score was 10-6. That was the final.
LHP Elvis Araujo (6-9) got the start for Lake County. Elvis earned the win. Araujo went five innings, allowing five hits, three earned runs, two walks and one strikeout. Manny Carmona pitched two innings allowing one hit, one earned run, one walk and one strikeout. Harlod Guerrero pitched just one third of an inning allowing one hit, two earned runs, on two walks and one strikeout. Enosil Tejada pitched the final one and two thirds innings for the Captains.
LHP Andrew Barbosa (2-3) started the ballgame for South Bend. Barbosa took the loss. Barbosa went five innings, allowing seven hits, six runs two earned, three walks and three strikeouts. He allowed the homer to Lowery. South Bend used three pitchers in relief as well. They combined to allow four runs on the day.
Lake County will stay on the road in South Bend, IND on Monday Night. The Captains will continue three game series against the Silver Hawks. Lake County will start RHP Cody Anderson (4-6, 3.18) and South Bend will counter with RHP Archie Bradley (10-5, 3.86). Game Time is at 7:05 PM.
