Captains take series from Silver Hawks with 4-2 win
BY TIM O'BRIEN CAPTAINS MEDIA (SOUTH BEND, IN) - The Captains loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning with nobody out. Todd Hankins promptly unloaded the bases as he tripled into the gap into right center field and put the Captains up 3-0. Hankins scored two pitches later when JR Bradley threw a pitch to the backstop. That chased Bradley from the ball game as he couldn’t escape the fifth inning. Lake County led after five innings 4-0. The Final was 4-2 Captains.
In the bottom half of the sixth inning, South Bend tied the ballgame. Ender Inciarte tripled to lead off the inning and then scored on the base hit by Chase Ellison. Ellison was out as he over slid second base. The Score after six innings was 4-1 Captains.
In the bottom of the eighth inning South Bend halved the lead. Josh Parr hit a single to shrt and took second on a passed ball. Parr got to third on an odd play. After the 1-0 pitch Alex Monsalve threw the ball back to Rob Nixon and the ball hit the batter Chris Ellison it was ruled as an error on Monsalve, and Parr took third. Parr scored on the fourth wild pitch by Captains pitching on the night and the score was 4-2 Lake County head
J.R. Bradley (2-6) took the loss for South Bend. Bradley only lasted four and two thirds innings allowing four hits, four runs, three were earned with five walks and two strikeouts. The bullpen kept the Captains off the scoreboard. Blake Perry made his Midwest league debut and pitched three innings and faced nine hitters, and he retired them all. The other pitcher was Seth Simmons who went 1.1 innings and held Lake County off the scoreboard. Simmons entered after the starter Bradley departed.
LHP Elvis Araujo (1-4) earned his first win of the season for the Captains. Araujo went six innings. Elvis scattered five hits and allowed one earned run while walking one and fanning six before leaving the building. Rob Nixon entered the game in the seventh inning, and pitched two innings. Nixon allowed one hit and one run. The run was un-earned. Nixon walked one and struck out two. Jeff Johnson earned his seventh save of the year when he pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Johnson struck out two in the inning.
JR Bradley (1-2) got the win for South Bend. Green pitched a season high five and two thirds innings and allowed just five hits, he allowed one earned run and struck out six Captains. Taylor Siemens the lefty entered for South Bend and two and a third scoreless innings. He fanned two. In the ninth Matt Sample came in to earn the save for the Silver Hawks.
