Captains pounded by last place Dragons 9-3 BY TIMOTHY W. SHIRER SPORTS EDITOR The three game series that began on Friday night for the Lake County Captains at Classic Park against the visiting Dayton Dragons marks the last series of the first half. Entering the night the Captains and Dragons were in seventh and eighth places respectively with the Captains only ahead of the Dragons by two and half games. Now the Captains are only a game and a half ahead of the Dayton as the Dragons took them apart on Friday Night 9-3.
The Captains took the lead in the top of the first inning 1-0 and it went down hill from there as the Dragons scored four times in the second inning, single runs in the third and fourth innings, two runs in the sixth and one more run in the eighth inning.
The Captains meanwhile could only manage two more runs in the second inning to close to 4-3 at that point and then the Lake County bats went silent. In the final seven innings of the game the Captains managed only two hits and five base runners.
Joe Colon made the start for the Captains and took the loss. Colon did not look good. He went five and two thirds innings and gave up seven runs, six earned on 12 hits. He walked one Dragons batter and struck out six. With the loss Colon falls below .500 at 5-6 with a 3.29 ERA.
