Captains win rain shortened game 2-1 BY TIMOTHY W. SHIRER SPORTS EDITOR
For the second time in three days a game between the Lake County Captains and Fort Wayne TinCaps had to be completed early due to rain. On Sunday Night the Captains were on the short end of the shortened game 4-0. On Tuesday night however the Captains got the win 2-1 in the four and a half inning rain shortened contest.
The Captains got on the board in the second inning when Alex Monsalve led off the inning with a home run to left field. The home run was Monsalve's seventh of the season and put the Captains on top 1-0.
Fort Wayne tied the game with a single run in the top of the third inning when with one out Travis Jankowski tripled to left field. The triple was Janokowski's second in only five games as a professional. Janokowski was a sandwich pick of the San Diego Padres in 2012 from Stoney Brook University. Tyler Stubblefield then singled and Janokowski came home to tie the game. Stubblefield was then picked off trying to steal second base for the second out of the inning. Travis Whitmore then tripled down the right field line. Captains starting pitcher Elvis Araujo then got Mike Gallic to end te threat and the inning.
With one out in the fourth inning Jordan Smith reached on an infield single. Monsalve then walked to put men at first and second. Jerrud Sabourin then singled to left field and Smith came home with the Captains second run giving them the 2-1 lead. Fort Wayne starter Ruben Mejia was able to get out of the inning with no further damage.
The weather quickly deteriorated and after the TinCaps went 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth inning the tarp was pulled over the infield. After a one hour and seven minute rain delay the game was officially over, giving the Captains the 2-1 lead.
Captains starting pitcher Elvis Araujo pitched all five innings for Lake County and picked up the win giving up one run on five hits and struck out three TinCaps. With the win Araujo improves to 3-6 with a 4.54 ERA. Fort Wayne starter Ruben Mejia went all four innings for the TinCaps and took the loss. Mejia gave up two runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out five. With the loss Mejia falls to 1-3 with a 3.95 ERA.

Joe Colon will make the start for the Captains. Colon is 6-8 with a 3.17 ERA. Tommy Collier will take the mound for the Whitecaps. Collier is 6-5 with a 2.29 ERA.
