Mayfield and Edgewood ousted from playoffs by court ruling
BY MATT JAWORSKI SPECIAL TO SENTINEL According to a report published by the Plain Dealer, a Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court Judge ruled the Ohio High School Athletic Association must recognize a forfeit by Cleveland JFK against John Adams on October 18th. JFK forfeited the game after discovering they allowed an academically ineligible player to participate in the game. The ruling is a temporary restraining order that was filed by Cleveland Heights High School. The OHSAA did not recognize the forfeit and refused an appeal by Cleveland Heights over this past weekend. Due to the court's ruling, Mayfield and Edgewood will not play in this weekend's games. Instead, Cleveland Heights will play St. Edward at Lakewood Stadium on Saturday night, while Beachwood will play Brookfield Friday night at George Nicholas Field in Maury, OH. The OHSAA has not issued a statement about the ruling. sports@lakecounty-sentinel.com or follow us on Twitter @SportsSentinel POSTED 11/01/2012 15:59
