Matt Brown movie reviews
"That's My Boy"

MATT BROWN
MOVIE CRITIC
Greetings cinemaniacs, I saw That's My Boy.  It stars Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg.  The premise is that Sandler was a terrible father but needs to reunite with his son for a particular reason.  I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

It has been a while since I was really interested in an Adam Sandler film; he has mostly stuck with the PG-13 family friendly comedies.  That's My Boy had that magical 'R' rating though; I just prefer 'R' comedies.  PG-13 comedies can be good but its much harder it seems.  This movie may offend some people's sensibilities but I thought it was hilarious.  The plot won't blow your mind but it was not too bad.  The jokes started out a little weak for me but really picked up as it went on.

Sandler was a character that scared me in the trailers, I just imagined the voice he was doing getting annoying over time.  It never really got to me though.  His character was pretty good I thought.  Samberg mostly stuck with his awkward comedy he does so well.  There was a great supporting cast and some surprise stars as well.  Of course, there were quite a few SNL alumni there as, such as: Will Forte, Rachel Dratch, and Colin Quinn.

I think that That's My Boy was one of the better comedies of this year.  The only one I could say is better is 21 Jump Street.  Unfortunately it is not doing too well in the theaters, which is unfortunate because I would like more Sandler 'R' comedies.  I think this is from the low reviews it is getting; the majority of critics are quite hard to please with dirty comedies.  I think that if you are looking for a laugh and can not wait until Ted comes out That's My Boy is well worth a $5 or matinee price movie trip.

There is a big week coming up with Brave, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World; I'm going to try and see all 3.  I am still waiting on Moonrise Kingdom as well.  See you next week movie fans!.
