Matt Brown movie reviews "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" MATT BROWN MOVIE CRITIC Hey there movie goers, I saw Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. It stars Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. It is a movie about a man trying to find a past love as an asteroid nears Earth. I left the theater liking the film more than I thought I would.
If I had to put this movie in a genre; I would put it in the indie/romance/dark comedy/drama/disaster category. It had a lot going on. I liked the script; some good dialogue. The plot really did not throw me any curve balls, but I still enjoyed the story. The movie did go to some dark or dramatic places but I thought it fit the overall tone of the film.
I thought the cast did a pretty good job overall. I am not the biggest Carell movie fan(barring Anchorman or 40 Year Old Virgin)(I tend to like his television performances more) but he impressed me in this movie with both his awkward comedic performance and the serious moments he was in. Keira Knightley did a decent job in her role. The minor cast roles were my favorite, and included some great comedians such as: Rob Huebel, Adam Brody, Rob Corddry, Patton Oswalt and others. Corrdry in particular was hilarious.
I think if you enjoy dark twisted indie comedies this movie is right up your alley. This movie has appeal for both women and men. I think this movie is well worth a matinee price or $5 movie night. The next movie I plan to review is Ted, and I can not wait to see it.. mbrown@lakecounty-sentinel.com or follow us on Twitter @LCSEntertainmnt POSTED 06/29/2012 02:22
