Matt Brown movie reviews "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" MATT BROWN MOVIE CRITIC Hey there movie fans, I saw Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. It stars Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, and Rufus Sewell. It was enjoyable, but definitely not for everyone. It was what most would call a 'B' movie with a budget. It was as over the top as the premise was.
The film was visually spectacular. The director, Timur Bekmambetov, is known for his visuals and action scenes; he doesn't disappoint in this respect. Some scenes had a color palette swap that added something to different moments. The CG was pretty good, with the exception of one scene where the CG was so bad I would have left it out of the film. The fight choreography and stunt work were pretty well done I thought. This movie went through Lincoln's life so they did some make-up work to age him and I thought it was impressive. I did not see it in 3D, but from what I have heard it is not necessary to the experience. Overall the execution of the film's visuals was great(besides the one scene I mentioned).
The story, plot, and acting just weren't on the same level as the film's visuals. Timur's storytelling falls short in this film. The acting was acceptable but the only real stand out I saw was Dominic Cooper. I did not read the book so I can not say how close it was to the novel. From what I have heard it adds and removes things and is more in the spirit of the books than an exact copy of the story.
I feel pretty confident just from the title those who want to see this movie know they want to see it. I think for those people the film is worth a $5 or matinee price movie ticket. The opposite also applies, most people who do not wanna see this film will know right after hearing the title, and I did not see anything to make me think those people should change their minds.. mbrown@lakecounty-sentinel.com or follow us on Twitter @LCSEntertainmnt POSTED 06/29/2012 03:07
