Matt Brown movie reviews "Total Recall" MATT BROWN MOVIE CRITIC The Total Recall is a science fiction tale about a man going to a company that implants memories. It turns out he was involved in more than he ever knew. It stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel and Bryan Cranston. It is based on the story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick. I enjoyed this movie but it definitely lacked in some areas.
This movie was more of an action film than the first movie. The script was weak. This led to a movie overall which lacked the emotional and psychological punch it should have had. The action was impressive. Whether it was a chase scene or fist fight, it was all well done. They had some great stunt work and fight choreography. The special effects were strong for the most part.
Colin Farrell did alright in his role but he was no Arnold. I was prepared for this though so it was not a surprise. Kate Beckinsale was good as the relentless foe. Jessica Biel and Beckinsale were both fantastic in their action scenes. I loved watching them go punch for punch. Cranston's performance was not very memorable. I loved John Cho in his very small role.
I have noticed in talking to people that are big fans of the old Total Recall movie starring Arnold, they are not fans of this new one. They can probably wait until it comes up for rental or video-on-demand. If you are a fan of big summer action flicks it is worth a $5 movie day trip but not much more.. mbrown@lakecounty-sentinel.com or follow us on Twitter @LCSEntertainmnt POSTED 08/16/2012 12:36
