Matt Brown movie reviews "The Campaign" MATT BROWN MOVIE CRITIC The Campaign is a political comedy about two men running against each other for a seat in Congress. It stars Will Ferrell, Zach Galifinakis, Jason Sudeikis, and Dylan McDermott. It was directed by Jay Roach. I enjoyed this movie quite a bit.
I think I liked this movie so much because I enjoy politics in general. I thought taking a satiric look at our sometimes ridiculous politics was quite nice. I am not quite sure how much someone who has a little to no interest in politics would like this movie. The jokes ranged from clever and political to raunchy and extreme. I was laughing throughout the movie but it did not have as many big laughs as I thought it would.
Will Ferrell and Zach Galifinakis and were both phenomenal. I enjoy Jason Sudeikis but his role in this film did not give him much chance to be funny. Dylan McDermott was surprisingly funny. John Lithgow and Dan Aykroyd were both under utilized.
I would place this comedy above Ted but still below what I believe is the best comedy of the year so far, 21 Jump Street. I am interested to see what people think of this one when more people see it. I think it is worth a $5 movie night or matinee price movie trip for fans of Ferrell or Galifinakis. I think those with an interest in politics should at least rent it when it comes out. mbrown@lakecounty-sentinel.com or follow us on Twitter @LCSEntertainmnt POSTED 08/16/2012 15:11
