RubberDucks slaparound B-Mets 7-2
Akron’s Bradley Zimmer collected three hits, and four RubberDucks pitchers combined on a two-hitter, as the Ducks captured a 7-2 win over the Binghamton Mets Tuesday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point
The RubberDucks (9-3) never trailed after scoring twice in the first inning off knuckleball artist Mickey Jannis. After a walk to Lonnie Chisenhall and a base hit from Zimmer, Jannis (1-1) uncorked a wild pitch to place runners at second and third with one out. After Nellie Rodriguez flied out to left, Yandy Diaz stepped to the plate and grounded a two-out, two-run single up the middle to give the RubberDucks an early 2-0 lead.

Winging It
Shawn Morimando (3-0) won his third straight start. He took a no-hitter to the fifth inning, but ran into trouble in the sixth and was lifted after giving up two runs on two hits with one out. Justin Brantley took over and worked around an error and a walk to leave the bases loaded and preserve a 4-2 lead. Perci Garner chipped in two scoreless innings and Grant Sides finished off the B-Mets (5-5) with a scoreless ninth.

Duck Tales
The RubberDucks extended the lead to 7-2 with three runs in the sixth off lefty reliever Kelly Secrest. Todd Hankins belted a two-run homer, his third of the season. Clint Frazier followed with a hustle-double on a line drive to left. With two outs, Zimmer rolled a ball through the right side of the infield. Second baseman L.J. Mazzilli knocked the ball down in shallow right, but Frazier sprinted home from second to make it 7-2. It was Zimmer’s 10th RBI of the season.

Zimmer also clubbed a triple in the third inning and scored on a double by Rodriguez. It was Zimmer’s second triple of the season. He added a stolen base in the sixth, his third of the year…Eric Stamets socked a solo homer in the fourth off Jannis to make it 4-0 at the time…Frazier’s double in the sixth gave him an 11-game hitting streak…In the bottom of the seventh with Bryson Myles batting, tempers flared and both dugouts emptied, but cooler heads prevailed and no one was ejected…Manager David Wallace exchanged words with Mets skipper Pedro Lopez during the rhubarb…Time of game: 3:00…Attendance: 2,030.

On Deck
The RubberDucks will conclude the series and the homestand when they go for the series sweep of the Mets on Wednesday evening at 6:35. RH Michael Peoples is the announced starter for Akron, and RH Robert Gsellman is expected to get the ball for the B-Mets.
