Wickliffe moves to 2-0, shutting out Red Raiders 33-0

After the Wickliffe Blue Devil’s week one victory over the Oberlin Phoenix Devils coach Marce Porcello commented that his team had some things to clean up. On Friday night against the visiting Painesville Harvey Red Raiders the Blue Devils played a cleaner game and it showed on the scoreboard as they shut out the Red Raiders 33-0 send home the faithful at Wickliffe Memorial Stadium home happy.

Both teams looked sluggish on their first drive and were forced to punt. But at the 6:22 mark of the first quarter the Blue Devils got on the board when Junior Isaiah Bolon took the ball 73 yards into the endzone to put the Blue Devils on the board. Bolon also the Blue Devils place kicker could not convert the extra point and Wickliffe led 6-0 midway through the first quarter.

Less than four minutes later Junior Chase Fortkamp scampered 37 yards to pay dirt and give the Blue Devils a 13-0 lead after Bolon converted the extra-point at the 2:49 mark of the first quarter.
The Blue Devils tallied their third of five rushing touchdowns in the game with 8:10 left in the second quarter when Senior quarterback Evan Rypinski took the ball 10 yards across the goal line, the two-point conversion failed, and the Blue Devils led 19-0.

The Blue Devils ran the ball down the Red Raiders throat all night as they rushed 38 times, using six different rushers running up their yards on the ground to 364 yards, FedEx Ground would be proud of the effort.

The Blue Devils took the 19-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. Fortkamp scored another time on the ground, this time from 18 yards out and the extra-point by Bolon was good and gave Wickliffe a 26-0 lead with 4:52 left in the third quarter.
The final point of the game came 3:32 later when Bolon carried the ball 25 yards to the endzone and put the Blue Devils on top 33-0 after he converted the extra-point.

Fortkamp led the way with 127 yards on 12 carries, Bolon ran the ball five times for 98 yards, Junior Jacob Lewis ran seven times for 67 yards and Junior Mason Bala carried five times for 47 yards.

The majority of Harvey’s yardage came through the air as Junior Jaden Debovec threw the ball 23 times, completing eight for 110 yards. The Red Raiders leading rusher was Senior Gil Kalina-Hammond. He ran the ball 12 times for 25 yards.
The Red Raiders have now been shut out twice in their first two games this season. While the Blue Devils have scored 87 points in their first two contests and surrendered only 18.

Next week the Red Raiders head to Grand Valley Mustangs Friday night at 7:00 p.m. While the Blue Devils face a tough test as they head to Orange to take on the Lions on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
