Ice Breakers subdue Prowlers 6-3

(MENTOR, OH) - The Mentor Icebreakers defeated the Port Huron Prowlers 6-3 Saturday night from Mentor Civic Ice arena, splitting a weekend series. 

The Prowlers opened the scoring just 5:42 in when a turnover by Mentor led to Justin Portillo scoring; the goal was unassisted. Mentor was able to tie it less than five minutes later when Declan Conway entered the zone and dropped a pass back to Parker Moskal, whose shot was tipped in front by Jon Buttitta. 

Mentor got off to a hot start in the second, scoring a power play goal 51 seconds in. Brody Duncan’s shot from the blue line was tipped in front by Declan Conway and went in. The Prowlers tied things up at 8:14. Jonathan Juliana’s shot from the blue line was blocked, Zachary Zulkanycz picked up, spun around and scored five-hole on the Mentor goaltender. The Prowlers lead didn’t even last two minutes. Jon Buttitta passed up to Parker Moskal who duked out the goalie and scored. Mentor scored their fourth goal at 15:15 as Declan Conway got his second of the game. After Mentor scored, the Prowlers’ goalie shoved the net off the goal slot and received a penalty.

The Prowlers cut the lead to one 3:19 into the third. A scramble in front of the Mentor net led to Zachary Zulkanycz scoring, assisted by David Nippard and Matt Robertson. Mentor got the lead back to two at 12:38. Thomas Stuart Dant circled around the net, jammed on the brakes and turned around; he shot and scored. The goal was assisted by Zac McKenna and Isaiah Crawford. The Icebreakers scored their final goal at 17:52 on the power play. It was scored by Thomas Stuart Dant from Brody Duncan and Declan Conway. 

The first star of the game went to Declan Conway with two goals and two assists, the second star went to Jon Buttitta with a goal and an assist and the third star went to Parker Moskal with a goal and an assist. The Ice Breakers started Austyn Roudebush in net; he stopped 54of 57 shots faced. The Prowlers countered with Chris Paulin who had 31 saves out of 37 shots faced.
