After a clunker in the home opener the Lake County Captains hoped to rebound on beautiful Sunday afternoon. However, things did not go as planned with the visiting Dayton Dragons shutting down the Captains 6-0.

The Captains pitching was better on Sunday except for the fifth and ninth innings. In the fifth Captains starter Shane Bieber and reliever Michael Letkewicz combined to give up four runs, two a piece in the inning. Then in the ninth inning Dalbert Siri, who came in to relieve to start the eighth inning lost his control and things unraveled and he could not finish the inning. Henry Martinez entered the game two record the final two outs including a nice catch in foul territory down the left field line by third baseman Erlin Cerda. The Dargons tallied two runs in the inning to run the score to 6-0.

Captains manager Larry Day, while not happy with the overall result was happy with the performance of Bieber, he is a believer. Day, said, "He was pretty efficient."

Bieber was charged with the loss going four and two thirds inning allowing two runs, both earned and struck out seven Dragons. With the loss, Bieber falls to 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA. Dayton starter Ryan Olson picked up the win. The Dayton righty went seven innings surrendering only two hits and striking out the nine Captains. With the win, Olson improves to 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

The Captains managed only four hits in the game and struck out nine times.

The Captains will be back in action on Monday night at 6:30 when they take on the visiting Great Lakes Loons. Lefty Juan Hillman will make the start for the Captains. The Loons have not announced their starting pitcher.
