Blue Devils open season with 4-1 win over Trinity
An offense led by senior Matt Colbert and junior Jacob Chenses who each had two hits and a complete game 10 strikeout performance by senior Major League draft prospect Dominic Zingale was enough to lead the Wickliffe Blue Devils to a 4-1 victory in their season and home opener at venerable Coulby Park Diamond One.

Trinity took an early 1-0 lead when Zingale walked the game's leadoff batter Mammana and he later came around to score on an error by senior third baseman Zach Hopton. Zingale allowed two singles in the inning but limited the damage to the one run.

The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth when the Blue Devils bats came alive and scored three runs. The inning began on a single by junior Christian Martinitis. Martinitis moved to second when the next batter Chesnes reached on a bunt single. Chesnes and Martinitis then moved to second and third when senior Noah Schiberl reached on an error. Finally Martinitis and Chesnes scored on a single by sophomore Dylan Ward, giving Wickliffe a 2-1 lead. Zingale then drew a base on balls. After junior Lucas Thomeier struck out looking senior Phillip Goth came through with a ground ball to the shortstop and Schiberl crossed the plate with Wickliffe's third and final run of the inning giving them a 3-1 lead at the end of five.

The Blue Devils added a final run in the sixth inning, when with two outs Chesnes added to his great day with a double to center field. He then scored when Schiberl singled to center field, giving Wickliffe a 4-1 lead.

Zingale struck out ten batters and issued four base on balls and allowed six hits en-route to his first win of the season (1-0) with an ERA of 0.00.

With the win the Blue Devils start the season 1-0 (0-0) and Trinity falls to 0-1 (0-0).
