Tribe pounds Reds 8-2 in spring opener
The Cleveland Indians opened the 2017 Cactus League campaign with an 8-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in front of 6,357 in Goodyear Ballpark.


Edwin Encarnacio went 2-for-2 in his club debut, plating the game’s first run in the first inning with an RBI single to left field. Bradley Zimmer was the offensive star, going 2-for-3 (5 RBI) with an RBI single in the 5th and a 3-run, opposite field home run in the 7th inning. Ryan Merritt (2.0IP, 4H, 2R/ER, 2SO) started and was capably relieved by Mike Clevinger, Andrew Miller, Shawn Armstrong, Joe Colon, Steve Delebar, Perci Garner and James Russell, who all notched scoreless innings.


The Indians will travel to Mesa, AZ tomorrow, Sunday, February 26 to take on the Chicago Cubs at 1:05 PM MT/3:05 PM ET. RHP Danny Salazar will start for Cleveland against RHP Jake Buchanan for the Cubs. The game will be aired live on SportsTime Ohio and on the radio via WTAM and the Indians Radio Network.
