Captains fall short in loss to Snappers 5-3

(EASTLAKE, OH) - Friday night the Lake County Captains welcomed the Beloit Snappers to Classic Park. Things did not turn out the way the crowd of 4,341 would have liked as the Snapper topped the Captains 5-3.

The Snappers got on the board first in the first inning with two runs off Captains starter Juan Hillman.

The Captains cut the lead in half in the third inning when Jorma Rodriguez singled and drove home Todd Isaacs who had singled earlier in the inning.

The Snappers increased their lead by two runs in the fifth inning, to take a 4-1 lead.

The Captains once again drew closer as they scored two runs in the sixth inning. The runs came when Jonathan Laureano drew a base on balls and scored when Jose Vincente doubled. Vincente then scored three batters later a single by Nolan Jones, pulling the Captains to within one run at 4-3.

The Snappers added an insurance run in the seventh inning off Captains reliever Nick Gallagher to increase the lead to 5-3.

Reliever Jesus Zambrano picked up the win for the Snappers pitching two and one third innings and allowing two runs, both earned. He issued one base on balls and struck out three Captains. With the win Zambrano improves to 3-1 with a 5.25 ERA. Hillman took the loss for Lake County. The lefty went six innings allowing four runs, two earned on six hits. He issued two base on balls and struck out one Snapper. With the loss Hillman falls to 0-4 with a 5.32 ERA.

Game two of the three game series will be Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. Ivan Andueza will be on the mound for the Snappers. Andueza, a righthander is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA. The Captains will counter with Gregori Vasquez. Vasquez, also a righty is 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA.
