Captains fall to Dragons 2-1

The Lake County Captains and Dayton Dragons played the rubber game of their three game series at Classic Park on Thursday night.  The Dragons ended up taking game two by the slimmest of margins 2-1.

​The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when the Captains put the first run on the board.  With one out in the inning Ka'ai Tom doubled.  Yonathan Mendoza followed and reached on a fielding error by the Dragons first baseman and Tom scored the Captains only run of the night.

The Dragons scored their only two runs of the game two innings later in the eighth when Gavin LaValley led off the inning with a double and two batters later James Vasquez belted his sixth home run of the season over the right field fence giving the Dragons a 2-1 adavantage that would hold up.

Dragons reliever Jesus Reyes picked up the win and improves to 1-1 with a 3.55 ERA.  Captains reliever Brock Hartson took the loss and falls to 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA.

The Captains begin a four game series on Friday night with the South Bend Cubs.  Game on is at 6:30 p.m.  Adbert Alzolay will take the mound for the Cubs.  Alzolay is 4-0 with a 2.43 ERA.  The Captains will send Righty Matt Esparza to the hill.  Esparza is 3-2 with a 4.46 ERA.
