The Lake County Captains suffered a tough loss on Thursday afternoon when they blew a ninth inning lead and loss to the Kane County Cougars 3-1. The Captains were hoping to get back on track Friday night in front of a nice crowd of 5,133 at Classic Park. They did just that as they tamed the Cougars 4-2 to snatch the series win.

The Cougars got on the board first with single runs in the first and second innings off Captains starter Micah Miniard.

Lake County broke through with a run in the bottom of the second when Logan Ice hit a solo home run off Kane County starter Ryan Atkinson.

Trevor Simms replaced Atkinson to start the seventh inning and the Captains broke through with a three-run inning. The big blow was a three-run home run off the bat of Li-Jen Chu to give Lake County a 4-2 lead which ended up as the final score.

Alsis Herrera picked up the win for Lake County in relief. Herrera pitched three innings in relief of Miniard. Captains Manager Larry Day said after the game that Herrera's effort in relief was the key to the win. With the win Herrera improves to 3-1 with a 1.89 ERA. Simms was saddled with the loss and falls to 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA, the blown save was his second of the season.

The Captains begin a three-game series on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Classic Park against the Clinton LumberKings (Mariners). The LumberKings have not announced a starting pitcher. The Captains will send Justin Garza to the hill. Garza, a righthander is 2-4 with a 5.97 ERA. .
