Nine Storm Wrestlers advance to second day of Super Regionals
(FINDLAY, OH) - The #23 Lake Erie College wrestling team had nine wrestlers advance to the second day of the Super Region 2 Championships on Friday (Feb. 23), hosted by the University of Findlay.

125-pounder Blake Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield), 165-pounder Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston), 184-pounder Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick), and 285-pounder Brandon Houle (Sparta, Mich. / Rockford / Hope) all advanced to the semifinals.

Forrest Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield), Sean O'Hearon (Albion, Mich. / -), Andrew Lieb (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins), Brendan Winning (Ravenna, Ohio / Ravenna) and Jesse Palser (Mansfield, Ohio / Mansfield) are all still alive in the consolation brackets in their respective weight classes.

B. Glogouski, the top seed, advanced to the 125 pound semifinals with a bye in the first round and a win via disqualification against Majid Corbit of Limestone in the quarterfinals. He will face Nick Daggett from UNC-Pembroke in the semifinals.

Vandermeer went 2-0, punching his ticket to the 165 pound semifinals on Saturday. He defeated Hunter Corwin from Coker with an 18-0 technical fall, his ninth tech fall of the season. In the quarterfinals, he pinned Alex Rice from Newberry in the third round. Vandermeer will be opposed by Brett Scoles from Wisconsin-Parkside in the semifinals.

Hughes defeated Bellarmine's Brett Bryant with a 19-2 technical fall in his opening bout of the day. He followed that up with a 3-1 decision over the sixth-ranked wrestler in the region, Connor Price from Wisconsin-Parkside. Hughes will have a rematch with Findlay's Brad Metz in the 184 pound semifinals.

Houle started the tournament with a bye in the first round. In his first match of the day, he defeated Ashland's Deaken McCoy with a 9-6 decision. Houle will face Findlay's Mimmo Lytle, in one of the 285 pound semifinals.

F. Glogouski won two of his three matches at 133 pounds, advancing to day two. He defeated Drew Crabtree (Coker) with a first period fall in his opening match. He fell in his second match to John Burger from Limestone by fall. He advanced to the second day with a 5-0 decision over Justin Payne of Belmont Abbey. He will face Jayquon McEntyre from UNC-Pembroke in the next consolation round.

O'Hearon battled back from a first round loss to advance to the second day. After an opening round loss to Limestone's Matt Rose, he defeated Troy Gregor of Belmont Abbey with a third period fall. He will take on Robert Mason from Ashland in the third consolation round.

Lieb started the weekend with an 8-7 decision over Ashland's Garrett Hall in the first round. He dropped his quarterfinal match to tenth-ranked James Wimer of Findlay by an 11-4 decision. In his first consolation round, he defeated King's Matthew Danner in a 7-1 decision. He will face seventh-ranked Heath Lange from UIndy in the third consolation round.

Winning won two straight matches by fall after a first round defeat on Friday. He fell to Limestone's Jimmy Sandlin by a 9-5 decision in the first round. He was victorious over Bellarmine's Ci'Vaughn Green and UNC-Pembroke's Brandon Sloop with falls in the next two consolation rounds. His third consolation round opponent will be Joey Rocca from Newberry.

Palser went 2-1 to advance to the second day of the tournament. He defeated Brian Girard (Belmont Abbey) with an 11-1 major decision in the first round. He dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to third-ranked Luke Cramer from Ashland in the quarterfinals. He bounced back with his second major decision of the day over Mitch Rusch from Bellarmine. He will oppose Findlay's Armani Robinson in the third consolation round.

Action will resume at 10:00 AM on Saturday (Feb. 24) with the semifinals and third consolation rounds #23 Lake Erie College wrestling team competed in their final dual prior to the Super Region 2 Championships next weekend on Tuesday (Feb. 13) night. The Storm fell to the #19 Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals by a final score of 34-12.

Sean O'Hearon (Albion, Mich. / -) opened the night on the short end of a 3-0 decision against Tyler Warner at 141 pounds. Warner got an early takedown and O'Hearon could not answer with a response.

The Cardinals pushed the lead to 12-0 with wins at 149 and 157 pounds.

Seventh-ranked Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) fought off a comeback against Tristan Brady at 165 pounds. Vandermeer added three points after Brady tied the match at eight. Vandermeer gave the Storm three points with an 11-8 decision.

Wheeling Jesuit won the next two matches at 174 and 184 pounds.

Chris Droege (Austintown, Ohio / Austintown-Fitch) won at 197 pounds with an 11-3 decision over Chase Logan as Lake Erie closed the gap to 24-6.

The Cardinals won two of the final three matches as they won the dual 34-12. Lake Erie got six points with a forfeit win at 125 pounds.

The Storm will return to the mat next Friday (Feb. 23) and Saturday (Feb. 24) at the Super Region 2 Championships.
