Rep. Rogers announces passage of bill honoring local World War II hero Col. Donald M. Blakeslee

(COLUMBUS) – State Rep. John Rogers (D- Mentor-On-The-Lake) today announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 276, which includes a provision introduced by Rogers to name the Fairport Road Bridge over the Grand River in Lake County after Col. Donald James Matthew Blakeslee, a Fairport Harbor native and one of the nation’s most decorated World War II fighter pilots.

“Colonel Blakeslee’s military service during World War II, and later in the Korean War, is an exemplary case of great selflessness and heroism,” Rogers said. “I am appreciative of the support of my colleagues in the Ohio House and Senate, who helped with the passage of this legislation that will mark the primary entry and exit to and from the Village of Fairport Harbor, Blakeslee’s birthplace and boyhood hometown.”

HB 276 will now be sent to the Governor for his signature to become law.
