Trenton’s Jordan Montgomery continued a weekend of dominant Thunder pitching with six shutout innings Saturday, as the Thunder defeated the Akron RubberDucks, 6-1, for their third straight win at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Turning Point
Dan Fiorito’s two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning off Adam Plutko gave Trenton an early 2-0 lead. It was Fiorito’s first of the year and immediately followed a lead-off walk to Dante Bichette, Jr.

Winging It
Plutko (1-2) was struck in the right forearm by a line drive by Trenton catcher Sebastian Valle in the bottom of the second inning, two batters after Fiorito’s homer. He was taken out of the game immediately for precautionary reasons. His status is officially a right forearm contusion. Plutko allowed four hits and two runs with one walk and one strikeout. Right-hander Antonio Romero entered the game in relief and allowed just one run in 3.2 innings. Grant Sides tossed two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh. J.P. Feyereisen worked the ninth and allowed a two-out, three-run homer by Valle that extended Trenton’s lead to 6-1.

Duck Tales
The RubberDucks (10-6) were unable to score off Montgomery (2-0), who scattered five hits over six innings. The lefty walked one and struck out five. He faced a bases-loaded threat in the fourth inning, but retired Bryson Myles on a fly-out to center to strand all three on base. The Ducks got their only run in the eighth when Yandy Diaz reached on a three-base error and scored on Bradley Zimmer’s double, which made it 3-1 at the time.
