On Wednesday afternoon the Wickliffe Blue Devils Boys and Girls bowling teams traveled to Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn, home of the PBA Tournament of Champions to take on the Akron Buchtel Griffins. Things went well for the Blue Devils as both teams dominated the Griffins. With the boys winning 8-1 and the girls
prevailing 7-2.

The Wickliffe boys were led by Junior Tommy Shirer who had the top series on the lanes for the two games with a 370. The Blue Devils took the first game 852-727. Shirer along with James Jones of Buchtel had the top scores in the first game, each throwing a 189.

In the second game the Blue Devils edged the Griffins 750 to 735. Buchtel’s Eddie Pickert led all bowlers on the lanes with a 191 game in the losing effort. Shirer once again led the Blue Devils with a 181 game. Pickert had Buchtel’s top series for the two games with a 364.

The Blue Devils took two out of three of the Baker Games and total pins in three games. Game one went to Wickliffe 143-135. The Blue Devils struggled big in game two falling 146-115. Finally, in game three Wickliffe recovered, taking down the Griffins 187-130, taking the match 8-1.

On the girl’s side it was very similar as Susannah Tippen was her usual fantastic self. In game one Tippen has a magnificent 235 score leading the Blue Devil Ladies to a 716-658 win. Whitley Phillips had the high game for Lady Griffins of 176 in the losing effort.

In game two the Tippen once again led the way for Wickliffe with a 192. Tippen, a state qualifier a year ago finished the two games with a 427 series. The Blue Devils took game two 731-579.

Just as the boys did, the girls took two of the three Baker Games. Game one went to Wickliffe 111-104. Game two went to Buchtel 119-103. Wickliffe bounced back in game three 109-105. Buchtel took total pins 328-323.

The Blue Devils boys and girls will be in action next on January 9, 2018 against Cleveland Hts. at The Roll House in Wickliffe. Wickliffe will be the visitors.
