(FAIRPORT HARBOR, OH) - On a cold night at the legendary Greig Field in Fairport Harbor, the undefeated Fairport Harding Skippers (10-0), led by Head Coach John Nagle, went into battle against the Windham Bombers (1-9) in the Skippers final NAC Conference game, as they will be moving back to the CVC next season. The Skippers not only took it to the Bombers, but they completely defused them 42-6.
On the opening kickoff, the Bombers surprised the Skippers as they kicked it deep towards the end zone, where Fairport would pick it up and receive it on the 1-yard line. On the very first play of the drive, Skippers junior running back Yomar Castellano scampered 36 yards to get the Skippers into good field position. Then, on the very next play, just two plays into the game, Fairport senior quarterback Brady Lawson hit Yomar for a 63-yard Touchdown Pass to make it a fast 7-0 Fairport.
Windham tried to be methodical with their drive, but Fairport was defense was just too much.
The Skippers then decided they wanted to be methodical and took a little while to get down the field and score. With 2:53 on the first quarter clock, Sophomore Running Back Abraham Castellano powered four yards for a score, 14-0 Skippers.
Then after Windham turned the ball over on an interception they quickly scored again as Lawson made it a trifecta when he hit senior Jan Castellano for a long Touchdown. Fairport now led 20-0 with 1:11 left in the 1st. Lawson already had his 2nd Passing TD of the game, and he wasn’t done.
The Bombers got on the board with a long drive, making it 20-6 with about 5:07 left on the second quarter clock.
Later in the quarter, Lawson, Lake County Sentinel offensive player of the year candidate, threw his third TD pass in the first half, 48 yards to senior TE/LB DJ Dambolena, making it 26-6 with 1:43 remaining before the halftime break.
It didn’t take the Skippers long to get on the board in the third quarter as sophomore Jacob Drennan ran 22 yards to the house and also caught the two-point conversion, giving the Skippers a 34-6 lead with 8:57 left on the third quarter clock.
The final score of the game came with 9:47 left on the game clock, when once again Lawson hit Abraham Castellano with a 12-yard touchdown pass, making it 42-6 Fairport.
The Skippers completed their first undefeated season since 1949 when they went 9-0. This is their fifth undefeated season in the history of the proud Fairport program. Lawson holds the school records in every quarterback category in a season, with 31 TDs and just over 2,000 yards passing. The Castellano brothers continue to amaze as they are stud athletes in every sport they play.
Fairport is the number two seed in region 25 and have a bye and then will host a playoff game, but it will not be at Greig Field; it will be at Riverside High School on November 7th, opponent not known yet.
