(PAINESVILLE, OH) - It was an absolute battle Friday night at Jack Britt Stadium in Painesville as the Harvey Red Raiders beat the Orange Lions 56-42.

Before the game Harvey head coach Mickey Mohner said, "We had a great week of practice preparing for the game. That's a good team over there (Orange), who are coming off of two straight wins. We are lucky to be getting some players back from injury though, but kids are prepared." The Orange Lions head coach Rob Senor echoed many of the same themes as coach Mohner. "Practice was great this week, the kids have some confidence after winning our last two games. I've been doing this (coaching) for 25 years and all I want is for our kids to play hard and love the feeling of winning. Harvey is a great team with a winning record, the game is going to come down to who will win in the trenches.

The trenches is indeed where the game was won as Harvey's senior running back Shahn Alston, who is also a four star commit to the University of Southern California, had an explosive night. Alston ended the game with 18 carries for 271 yards rushing and three rushing touchdowns, while also adding four receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown. His running mate in the backfield senior Chris Burt also had a massive game with 18 carries as well for 165 yards and three touchdowns.

Shahn Alston talked about his teammate Chris Burt after the game. "Chris is a dog. I tell him every day that he so slept on. He should be on every division 1 schools recruiting board. He works at practice all the time, we push each other, I'm just proud of him and looking forward to what else we can do the rest of the season."

The Lions also had a pair of outstanding running backs in the game tonight who constantly answered the call to score. Senior Tye Russell had 14 carries for 189 yards and two touchdowns and junior EJ Dowdell, who coach Senor said to watch before the game, had 22 carries for 108 yards and three touchdowns.

The ground game was working for both teams, but Harvey got the stops when they mattered the most, including two big time interceptions from quarterback/defensive back Markese Wise who despite cramping all game long went 10/14 for 235 yards and two touchdowns in addition to his phenomenal interceptions.

After the game Harvey's coach Mohner said, "It starts up front. We put the challenge on our guys all the time." He then switched to talking about Markese Wise. "I think he was cramping up a little bit. Kese though, he's just a ball player. All of 5'4, but pound for pound one of the best football players I've ever been around. His knowledge game, the way he stays with himself, he's a heck of a football player." Coach Mohner then gave praise to his coaching staff for getting the team ready and staying ready for next week.

The Harvey Red Raiders improve to 4-2 on the year and will be on the road next week taking on West Geauga, while the Orange Lions fall to 2-4 and will host a very good 4-2 Perry Pirate football team next Friday. Both games are Friday October 3rd with 7:00 pm start times.
