One of the thing people around the Wickliffe Blue Devils football program knew going into the season was the team needed to get off to a good start. On Friday night at Wickliffe Memorial Stadium they did just that as they throttled the Lutheran West Longhorns 41-6 to kick off the 2016 season.

Wickliffe got off to a quick start and never looked back thanks to their powerful running game lead by a devastating offensive line with seniors Christian Martinitis, Andrew Newrones and juniors Jared Szinte and Dominic Liuzzo.

The Blue Devils took an early 12-0 lead in the first quarter on rushing TD's by RB Nick Fenton (24 yards) and a keeper by QB Lucas Thomeier (22 yards).

The rushing game only got better once sophomore Isaac Pettway got involved. Pettway scored Wickliffe's final four touchdown and ended the night with 217 yards on 12 carries. He also added a rushing two point conversion after his third touchdown which was an 80 yard scamper.

Wickliffe finished the night with 414 yards on the ground on 37 attempts. Lutheran West ran the ball 24 times for 42 yards.

The Blue Devils defense led by seniors Jacob Chesnes, Robby Johnson and Justin Fortkamp smothered the Longhorns offense and limited it to 172 total yards.

Next up for the Wickliffe they play the Richmond Hts. Spartans at Richmond Hts, Friday..
