Sunday afternoon at Classic Park the Lake County Captains were attempting to break a two games skid against the visiting West Michigan Whitecaps. Unfortunately for the Captains and the 1,488 in attendance the Whitecaps came out on top 5-1 extending the Lake County losing streak to three games.

The Whitecaps jumped on Captains starting pitcher Shane Bieber right away in the first inning with four runs. The Captains defense did not help Bieber out either as Captains first baseman Emmanuel Tapia committed a fielding error which allowed the first batter of the game to reach base.

Bieber did recover and only allowed one more run in his seven innings of work. four of the five runs that Bieber allowed were unearned.

Meanwhile West Michigan starting pitcher Greg Soto allowed only one unearned run in five innings of work and the West Michigan bullpen put up zeroes for four innings. The Captains only managed five singles in the game and did not take advantage of the six base on balls issued by Whitecaps pitching.

Soto picked up the win and improves to 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. With the loss, Bieber falls to 2-3 with a 3.00 ERA.

The Captains will now head out on the road for their first western trip of the season a six-game trip which begins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for three against the Kernels (Twins) and then three in Quad Cities against the River Bandits (Astros). The first game in Cedar Rapids will be on Tuesday night at 7:35 p.m. The starting pitcher for the Kernels is to be announced. Juan Hillman will be on the mound for Lake County. Hillman, a lefty is 1-3 with a 10.59 ERA.
