There was morning baseball at Classic Park on Wednesday for the second day in a row as the Lake County Captains wrapped up their series with the visiting Beloit Snappers. Unfortunately, things did not go the Captains way as the Snapper pounded Lake County 9-1.

The Captains got on the board early in the first inning in unusual fashion. Beloit starting pitcher Brendan Butler struck out the side. After striking out the leadoff hitter Trenton Brooks, Alex Pantoja singled to left field. With Logan Ice at the plate Pantoja stole second base, his third theft of the season. After Ice was retired on strikes Li-Jen Chu was at the plate and Pantoja stole third base on the throw down from the catcher Beloit third baseman Eric Martinez missed the ball and Pantoja came home with the Captains first run of the game.

The Snappers got on the board and took the lead in the third inning off Captains starter Brady Aiken. The inning began with Aiken issuing a base on balls to Eric Martinez. With Mike Martin at the plate Aiken uncorked a wild pitch and Martinez moved to second. After Aiken struck out Martin, Trace Loehr singled to left field and Martinez moved to third base. Luke Persico then singled and Martinez came home to tie the game 1-1 and Loehr moved to third base. Kyle Nowlin then hit a sacrifice fly and Martin trotted home with the go ahead run, giving Beloit a 2-1 lead.

The Snappers added two more runs in the fifth inning and knocked out Aiken out of the game. The former number one pick lasted four and one third innings allowing four runs, three earned on five hits. He issued four base on balls and struck out five Snappers hitters. With the loss, Aiken falls to 0-6 with a 4.66 ERA.

The Snappers finished out the scoring in the eighth inning adding five more runs to increase the gap to 9-1.

Butler picked up the win for the Snappers. Butler, a righty went six and two thirds innings allowing just the one Lake County run, it was unearned. He allowed two hits and issued one base on balls and struck out five Captains.

The Captains will continue their six game homestand on Thursday night when they open a three game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:30 p.m. Righthander Jordan Desguin will be on the mound for the Timber Rattlers. The Captains will counter with their own righthander Justin Garza.
