(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains finished up their four-game series and homestand on Monday afternoon against the Great Lakes Loons. It was not what the 1,656 wanted to see as the Loons destroyed the Captains 14-5 at Classic Park.

The Loons got on the board first in the fourth inning with a single run off Captains starter Kirk McCarty. McCarty is a lefty.

McCarty did not make it out of the sixth inning when Great Lakes scored four more runs, giving the Loons a 5-0 lead.

The Captains, who were being no-hit through five innings by Loons starter Alfredo Tavarez, put together a five-run rally in the sixth inning after Tavarez was replaced by Riley Ottesen. Ottesen did not retire a batter in the inning as he gave up four runs, all earned on two hits and two-base on balls. He was replaced by Austin Hamilton, who gave up a run, but put the fire out and stopped the Captains rally at five runs, but the game was tied 5-5.

Unfortunately for the Captains their offense went silent from this point in the game and the Loons bats kept producing.

The Loon scored in the next three innings, two in the seventh, one in the eighth and six more in the ninth to finish off the drubbing of the Captains pitching staff. Riley Echols took the loss for the Captains. Echols pitched just two thirds of an inning allowing two runs, both earned on one hit and one base on balls. With the loss Echols falls 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA. Reliever Austin Hamilton picked up the win for the Loons. Hamilton entered the game in the sixth inning in relief of Ottesen. Hamilton blew the save in the inning and the pitched well enough for two innings o pick up the win. With the win Hamilton improves to 2-0 with a 3.09 ERA. The blown save for Hamilton was his first of the season.

With the loss the Captains fall to 21-30 and are now in sole possession of seventh place in the Midwest League Eastern Division

The Captains will now hit the road for a six-game road trip. The trip will start in Lansing, Michigan against the Lugnuts on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Nick Gallagher will be on the mound for the Captains. Gallagher is 0-1 with a 3.63 ERA. Righthander Maverik Buffo will be on the mound for the Lugnuts. Buffo is 6-1 with a 4.46 ERA.
