(EASTLAKE, OH) – When the Lake County Captains returned home on Tuesday night from a twelve-game road trip they had lost six straight and 9 of their last 10 games to end the trip. They dropped the first game of the series on Tuesday against Dayton, but since they have gotten back on track and coming into Saturday’s game five of the series the Captains had won three straight. Saturday night was a different story and things went south in a hurry as the Dragons pummeled the Captains 15-4 in front of 2,091 in attendance at Classic Park.

Things got ugly early for Captains starting pitcher righthander Kevin Coulter. Coulter allowed a single run in the first inning on three hits, including a leadoff double. Things only got worse for Coulter as he did not make it out of the second inning. Coulter’s final line was, one and two third’s innings, seven runs, all earned on 10 hits and he managed a strike out.
Coulter was relieved by Alec Wisely. Wisely did manage to get out of the inning but like Coulter was also in the giving mood, giving up hits. In the third inning Wisely gave up four runs, including a three-run home run by Quin Cotton. Wisely did pitch a scoreless fourth inning before he gave way to Jared Janczak to start the fifth inning. Wisely’s final line was two and a third innings, four runs, all earned on five hits. He also issued two base on balls and struck out three batters.

The Captains who were being no hit through four innings by Dayton starter righty Graham Ashcraft. Aaron Bracho led off the fifth inning with a single to end the no hit bid and then was driven home three batters later when Daniel Schneemann hit a sacrifice fly to left field to get the Captains on the board.
The Dragons added a single run in the sixth innings off Captains reliever Janczak. They scored two more runs in the seventh inning, those runs were off Lake County’s third reliever of the night Kellen Rholl. Rholl pitched one and a third innings and was relieved by Nick Gallagher with one out in the eighth inning. Gallagher recorded the final two outs to end the inning.

The Captains pulled to within 10 runs with a three run in the eighth inning off Dayton reliever Sam Hellinger, he was relieved by Jake Gilbert to finish the inning.
The final run of the game when Dayton added one last run for good measure in the ninth inning to extend their lead to 15-4.

Ashcraft picked up the win for the Dragons going six innings allowing one unearned run on just two hits. He surrendered one base on balls and struck out eight Captains hitters. With the win the righthander improves to 3-1 on the season with a 3.71 ERA. Coulter suffered his first loss of the season falling to 2-1 with a 10.13.

The series will wrap up on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Spencer Stockton will be on the mound for the Dragons. Stockton is 2-0 with a 3.57 ERA. Right hander Mason Hickman will be on hill for Lake County. Hickman is 1-2 with a 3.45 ERA..
