(EASTLAKE, OH) – The Lake County Captains played game five of their six game series with the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Saturday night. The Captains had won the first four games of the series entering Saturday’s contest. But game five belonged to the TinCaps as they had just enough offense to slip past the Captains 4-3 in front of 2,473 at Classic Park.

The Captains got on the board in the second inning when Jonathan Englemann started the inning when he reached first base on a throwing error by TinCaps shortstop Ethan Skender. Raynel Delgado followed with a sharp single to center field and Englemann moved to third base. Delgado then stole second, it was his sixth stolen base of the year. Finally, Austen Wade hit a sacrifice-fly to center field and Englemann trotted home giving the Captains an early 1-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Captains starting pitcher lefty Matt “Shaggy” Turner pitched well going four and one third innings allowing no runs and only two hits. He issued two base on balls and struck out five. Jared Janczak relieved Turner and pitched well for the first inning and two thirds getting through the sixth inning without giving up any runs.

The seventh inning was not as kind to Janczak as he did not survive the inning giving up three runs including a solo home run by Jonny Homza to lead off the inning. He also allowed a single, double and issued two base on balls before Captains Manager Greg DiCenzo pulled him in favor of Nick Gallagher. Gallagher was able to retire the final batter on strikes to end the rally and keep the score at 3-1.

The Captains tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning when Michael Amditis was hit by a pitch. After Victor Nova was called out on strikes Brayan Rocchio came to plate and launched his first home run on a missile shot into the left field bleacher tying the game 3-3.

The game was not tied for long as the leadoff hitter in the top of the ninth Dwanya Williams-Sutton smashed the second pitch of the inning over the center field wall to give the TinCaps a 4-3 lead.

Edwuin Bencomo picked up the win for the TinCaps in relief. Bencomo went five innings in relief allowing two runs on just one hit and issued on base on balls. He also struck out six Captains. With the win Bencomo improves to 2-0 with a 2.53 ERA. Carter Loewen pitched a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts to earn his second save of the season and improve his ERA to 3.38.

The Captains and TinCaps will finish up the six-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Right hander Mason Hickman will make the start for the Captains. Hickman is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA. Ethan Elliott who pitched the first game of the series for the TinCaps will be on the mound. In his first appearance against Lake County he went five innings allowing one run on two hits, issued one base on balls and struck out six. On the season the lefty is 0-1 with a 1.00 ERA.
