Summary
Akron’s Julian Merryweather fanned a season-high, eight batters and combined with two relievers on a five-hitter Friday night, as the RubberDucks snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Bowie Baysox at Canal Park.

Turning Point
Trailing 1-0, the RubberDucks rallied for a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take the lead against David Hess (4-10). Jeremy Lucas led off with a double to center. Jordan Smith drove in Lucas with a single to right to tie the game, 1-1. After Smith stole second, Joe Sever stroked a single to left to drive in Smith and give the Ducks a 2-1 lead.

Winging It
Merryweather enjoyed his best outing at Double-A. He twirled six innings and scattered three hits and a run. He struck out a season-high, eight hitters and walked only one. He fanned the side in the second inning. He gave up a hit and walk to start the Bowie fifth inning, but got the next three hitters to protect the lead. Louis Head came in after Merryweather. He retired the side in order in the seventh, but got into a jam in the eighth inning. Cole Sulser came to the rescue, however, and retired Chance Sisco on a groundout on his first pitch to strand two runners. Sulser then worked the ninth to earn his fourth save.

Duck Tales
Greg Allen belted his first Double-A homer in the fifth inning to extend the Akron lead to 3-1. Allen also added an infield single and finished with two of Akron’s five hits. Smith and Sever each picked up his 25th RBI.

Notebook

On Deck
The RubberDucks will continue the homestand on Saturday night at 7:05 with game three against the Bowie Baysox. RHP Michael Peoples is scheduled to start for Akron, and RHP Matt Grimes is the announced starter for the Baysox.
