Blue Devils claw Wildcats

Monday was Senior Day for the Wickliffe Blue Devils Girls and Boys Bowling teams as they took on Mayfield. The Blue Devils seniors did not disappoint as the girls took down the mauled the Wildcats 9-0 and the boys took a bite out of Mayfield 7-2.

The boys match was a thriller early as the first game was close
throughout and the Blue Devils trailed heading into the tenth frame when senior Shaymie Hernandez came through. Hernandez need to spare and get one pin. He did his job as he converted the spare and then tallied eight pins to give the Blue Devils the seven-pin win. Wickliffe senior Adam Velichka led the Blue Devils with a 179 game.

Game two was much more lopsided as the Blue Devils blew out the Wildcats 884-702. Junior Tommy Shirer led everyone with a 216 in the game and Velichka rolled another nice game with a 206 in the winning effort.

The Blue Devils barely slip by the Wildcats in the first Baker Game 154-151 and then dropped the next two 128-120 and 163-114. Wickliffe did win total pins in the match 2054-1919.

The Girls match was not even close as the Blue Devils pounced 1619-1221 sweeping the match. Seniors Susannah Tippen and Daysha Thomas were bowling their final regular season match for the Blue Devils. Tippen led all bowlers with a 191 in the first game to increase her status as an elite bowler in the area leading the Lady Devils to a 577-448 win. Game two saw the Lady Devils step it up to yet another level as they took apart the Wildcats 707-555. Tippen had a 190, with sophomore Haley Boylan throwing a 185 and Thomas tossing a 143.

Boylan had a 342 series which was 106 pins above her current average.

The Lady Devils also swept the Baker games by a total of 117 pins.

Next up for the Blue Devils boys and girl’s teams is Solon at Roseland Lanes on Wednesday.
