Blue Devils dominate Huskies on Senior Night 36-3

The Wickliffe Blue Devils welcomed the Cardinal Huskies on Friday Night to Wickliffe Memorial Stadium. It was Senior night as Seniors Evan Rypinski, Michael Mulroy and Nick Martinitis played their final game for Wickliffe. Things went well as the Blue Devils blew out the Huskies 36-3 to finish the season 6-4.

Martinitis started the game in grand fashion recovering the kickoff at the Cardinal 40 to begin the game. The Blue Devils took the ball right down the field and scored with 10:41 left in the first quarter on a one yard run by Junior Chase Fortkamp.

Cardinal nearly fumbled the kickoff after the Wickliffe score but fell on it to take possession at their own 27 with 10:39 left on the clock.
After Cardinal could not turn their possession into points the Blue Devils took over at their own 28 with 7:17 left on the first quarter clock. Wickliffe once again ran the ball in for a TD. This time it was Rypinski from one yard out :48 left in the first quarter.

Cardinal couldn’t get anything going once again and the Blue Devils took over on downs at the Cardinal 44 with 11:08 left on the second quarter clock. Wickliffe was unsuccessful also after they took over when Isaiah Bolon’s 22-yard field goal attempt was blocked.

Cardinal took over at their own 30 with 7:28 left in the first half. After going three and out the Huskies kicked to Wickliffe.

Wickliffe took possession at their own 21 with 6:53 left in the second. The possession was highlighted by a 53-yard pass from Rypinski to Junior Mason Bala. Three plays later Rypinski scored from one yard out on a keeper with 4:18 left and Wickliffe led 24-0 after Bolon ran the ball in for the two-point conversion.

The Huskies took over at their own 28-yard line trying to get something going with 4:09 left on the clock in the first half. With :31 left in the first half Wickliffe took over on downs and turned the ball over on an interception to end the first half. But the half did not end as Wickliffe committed two consecutive penalties, but Cardinal did not take advantage as the half ended.

Wickliffe took the second half kickoff and started at midfield. Wickliffe could not get a driving going and, on the punt attempt the snap was bad and Cardinal took the ball over at the Wickliffe seven-yard line with 9:36 left in the third quarter. The Huskies finally got on the board with 8:24 left on the scoreboard when they converted a field goal to pull to within 21 at 24-3.

The Blue Devils took over at the 35 after the Huskies kicked off out of bounds with 8:20 on the clock in the third quarter. The Blue Devils scored three plays later on a 47-yard TD scamper by Fortkamp with 6:13 left. The two-point conversion failed, and Wickliffe led 30-3.

The Blue Devils added one more TD on a 14-yard run by Bolon with 3:59 left on the clock.

The Blue Devils ground games was as usual the strength of their Wing-T offense. Fortkamp led all rushers with 24 for carries and 209 yards. Bala carried the rock eight times for 71 yards and Rypinski n his final appearance on the grass at Memorial field ran the ball 11 times for 64 yards.  
Rypinski had two passing attempts and completed one on a nice 53-yard connection with Bala.
The stout Blue Devils defense led by Junior’s Jack Bunn, Zack Esteves and Tyler Fisher held the Huskies to 197 total yards.
