The Wickliffe Blue Devils moved to 3-0 on Friday night with a convincing 42-0 victory over the East Tech Scarabs.
The scoring started early and occurred often as Wickliffe scored six times in the first half, five via the touchdown and one safety.

The scoring began just :25 into the game when Senior Isaac Pettway found the end zone from eight yards out. Giving Wickliffe a 6-0 lead after the extra-point failed.

The Blue Devils came right back on their second drive and scored on a nice 32-yard pass from Senior Brad Dieterich to Sophomore Chase Fortkamp giving Wickliffe the 13-0 lead after Dieterich converted the extra-point with 8:50 left on the clock in the first quarter.

Wickliffe then blocked an East Tech punt for a safety with 6:51 left in the quarter to give the Blue Devils a 15-0 lead.

The final scoring blow of the first quarter by the Blue Devils gave them a 22-0 advantage with 5:27 left on the clock when Pettway took the ball into the end zone from one yard out.

The Scarabs final drive of the first quarter was interrupted when Senior DeNarre McRae leaped and intercepted a pass from East Tech Senior quarterback Cordell Davis to end the East Tech scoring threat.

The Blue Devils extended their lead twice in the second quarter with a pair of touchdowns. Pettway recorded the hat trick with his third TD of the night with 11:31 left in the half when he scampered in from seven yards out. Then the final TD of the half came when Senior Jaylen Bowers carried the ball across the goal line from eight yards out,
extending the Wickliffe lead to 36-0 at halftime.
There was only one more score in the game and it came with 5:04 left on the clock in the third quarter and Sophomore Isaiah Bolen carried the ball into the end zone from three yards out and gave the Blue Devils a 42-0 lead after the extra point was not converted.

Pettway had another huge night continuing to prove he is very worthy of the Division One college offers he has received. The Senior carried the ball seven times for 131 yards and an 18.5 average in the game. Through three games Pettway has carried the ball 49 times for 334 yards good for a 7.5 average per carry.

Wickliffe Coach Marce Porcello commented on his plan for the game tonight and how it worked out, “We told the guys we wanted to start fast, and our line was moving the line of scrimmage and Isaac is running and Chase carried it a couple of times there and we had a pass for a touchdown. You know we wanted to start fast and take an early lead if we could and that’s what happened.”
Porcello went on to compliment his offensive line, “I knew we were young up front and those guys are getting better every day. But they work really hard in the offseason and a lot of them play both ways.”

The Wickliffe offense totaled 331 yards while the defense surrendered only 51 yards of offense to the Scarabs and intercepted three passes in the game.

Wickliffe will open conference play next Friday at home against the Independence Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m.
