(EASTLAKE, OH) – The Lake County Captains and South Bend Cubs finished up their six-game series on Sunday night. The series was six games condensed into four days because of weather on Tuesday and Wednesday when singles games were cancelled. The last four days were grueling, and it showed with the Captains offense as they were shut out by the Cubs 3-0.

The Cubs got on the board in the third inning scoring the only three runs of the game. Captains’ starter Mason Hickman after striking out the first hitter of the inning issued a base on balls to Josue Huma. Delvin Zinn then hit a weak fly ball to center field and Huma was forced out at second base, Zinn reached first safely. Edmond Americaan then singled to center field putting two men on base. Then the big blow, the one pitch that decided the game when Hickman put the ball right over the plate and Nelson Velazquez

smacked his tenth home run of the season. That was all she wrote as the Captains offense could not get anything going all night.

Cubs starter Chris Kachmar a righthander only went three and two thirds innings allowing three hits, issuing one base on balls and struck out four. Tyler Sullentrop relieved Kachmar and went two clean innings striking out three Captains hitters to pick up the win. With the win Sullentrop improves to 2-0 with a 10.80 ERA. Tanner Jesson-Dalton pitched the final inning and two thirds to pick up his first save of the season. Hickman suffered the loss for Lake County and did not pitch that bad as he went six innings allowing three runs all earned on two hits. He two base on balls and struck out six Cubs. With the loss Hickman is now 3-4 with a 5.49 ERA.

With the Loss Lake County falls to 29-25 and 1.5 games off the pace in third place behind Dayton and one game behind Great Lakes who currently occupies second place in the High-A Central Eastern Division.
The Captains will now travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana on Tuesday to take on the TinCaps in a six-game series. No pitchers have been announced for the series. First pitch Tuesday night is at 7:05 p.m.
