The Wickliffe Blue Devils varsity boys bowling team had a breakout season this year. They won the Greater Cleveland Interscholastic Bowling League Division II. On Monday, they returned to Wickliffe at Wickliffe Lanes to bowl NDCL in their final match before sectionals on Friday.

Monday was no different than most of the year had gone as the Blue Devils easily dispatched the overmatched NDCL. The match began well for Wickliffe as they dominated NDCL 948 to 760 as Blue Devils Senior Matt McCafferty led all bowlers with a 259 game.

NDCL did take the second game of the match in a close contest 867 to 848. McCafferty once again bowled well with a 219 in the losing effort for Wickliffe.

The three Baker games were not even close as Wickliffe bowled some of their best Baker games of the season. The first Baker game the Blue Devils pounded NDCL 228-194 with seven strikes and five in a row from the fourth frame through the eighth to eliminate any hope for NDCL.

The second Baker game was closer, but never in doubt for the Blue Devils led throughout. Wickliffe took the game 187 to 159. The third game was pretty much the same as the second as Wickliffe dominated again with a 180-154 win.

It was senior day for the Blue Devils as Seniors Randy Clark, Matt McCafferty, James Heckman, Jake Rodgers, Jayden Moore and Howie Taylor bowled their final regular season match for Wickliffe, this senior group has helped make Wickliffe a dominant force in high school bowling in Northeast Ohio. The Blue Devils recently lost in the Championship of the GCIBL to Division I St. Edwards, taking the larger private school to the final frames of the final game before falling.

The Blue Devils girls team also defeated NDCL led by senior Megan Crellin.
