Captains win streak snapped in 5-2 loss to Hot Rods

(EASTLAKE, OH) - On Friday night the Lake County Captains welcomed the Bowling Green Hot Rods to town for a three-game series to close out the first half of the season. The first place Hot Rods came to town with an eight-game win streak and the Captains had won three straight games so something had to give. Unfortunately for the Captains and their 6,5 fans67 it was the Hot Rods who came out on top 5-2 winning their ninth straight.

The Captains got on the board first in the third inning when Ulysses Cantu belted his seventh home run to give the Captains the 1-0 lead.

The Hot Rods jumped on Captains starter Juan Hillman for three runs in the fourth inning.

The Captains drew within one run in the sixth inning when Nolan Jones blasted his seventh home run of the season over the left center field fence to cut the Hot Rods lead to 3-2.  

Sadly, for Hillman he came out for the seventh inning and could not complete the inning. Jonathan Teaney and 10.57 ERA came into finish the inning and record the final out of the inning, but the damage had been done as Bowling Green led 5-2.

Tommy Romero picked up the win for Bowling Green. Romero went seven innings allowing two runs, both earned on four base hits. He also issued one base on balls while striking out eight Captains. With the win Romero improves to 6-3 with a 2.17 ERA. Orlando Romero pitched the final two innings for the Hot Rods picking up the save. The save was Orlando Romero’s first of the season. Hillman took the loss for the Captains falling to 0-8 with a 6.18 ERA

The Captains and Hot Rods will play game two of the three game series on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Righthander Tobias Myers will take the mound for the Hot Rods. Myers is 7-3 with a 5.01 ERA. Gregori Vasquez will be on the mound for Lake County. Vasky, also a righthander is 2-2 with a 3.76 ERA..
