40th year of the Rockefeller Road Revue "The Ruby" continues a great tradition

For 40 years at Wickliffe High School there has been a tradition and it’s called “Rockefeller Road Revue” In the show’s early years it was more of a talent show and has morphed into more of a musical with a single-story line. This year’s show is appropriately named “The Ruby” The storyline this year centers around “The Ruby” which is a building, a historical building that is about to be sold. Many factors ensue during the performance of the show and in the end the building is, I won’t ruin it for the people who read this and want to see the show.

There are many worthwhile performances in the show. One of the things that was a staple of the early shows in the 70’s and 80’s was participation on stage by faculty members. That seemed to disappear through the years but started to change last year and was very evident in this year’s show as three faculty members performed on stage in the portions (this does not include faculty members who perform in the band). This year Danielle Carey, Nick Huebner and Adam Randau were the three faculty members to act in the show and perform songs. Randau performed in last year’s show.

Once again, the students were the stars of the show and did an excellent job. Some of the standout performances were from Jonathan Fishwick (Junior), Brendan Beasor (Junior), Maggie Grmek (Junior) and Kevin Shutte (Sophomore). But, I must say there was one performance that stood alone and was just marvelous, it was by Junior, Riley Pugh. Pugh performed “Fortune and Fame” and absolutely stole the show in my opinion.

Once again, the show was produced by Phil Motta and Mark Jastrzebski. Motta and Jastrzebski are Wickliffe graduates and Motta has been a longtime teacher and coach in the district. They do a fantastic job with the production of the show.

This year’s show was dedicated to Matt Molek. Molek was a custodian at the high school until his untimely death on February 21. Molek, a 1988 graduate of Wickliffe was a huge supporter of the RRR and over the years had given hours of his own time to help make the show a success and most importantly help the students have a great experience.

So, I would recommend attending a performance of this year’s RRR. There are still four shows remaining tonight (March 4), March 10, 11, all shows are at 7:30, except for a special 3:00 p.m. performance tomorrow (March 5).
