The The Fairport Harbor Skippers earned their first win last week when the defeated Windham 12-0. On Friday night they faced their longtime rival the St. John Heralds at Greig Field in Fairport.

The game started with an unsuccessful onside kick by the Heralds. The Skippers easily scored on the first drive with 9:41 left on a 14-yard touchdown run by Senior Josiah Cooper who was dominant the whole drive pounding through defenders. The first quarter ended with the Skippers up 6-0. Just five seconds into the second quarter the Skippers scored again on a 1-yard touchdown run by Senior Christian Palmer adding to their lead at 12-0. Palmer then Safetied the Heralds running back to give the Skippers a 14-0 advantage. Fairport then pulled a little trickery on their next touchdown when Junior quarterback Gabe Lawson flipped the ball to Sophomore RB Maverrick Piotrowski who then threw the ball to Senior tight end Dillon Knesebeck making the halftime score 22-0.

There was not much scoring in the second half. On the very first play Piotrowski picked off the Heralds QB but the Skippers were unable to take advantage of the turnover. The first and only points of the game for the Heralds was on a 67-yard touchdown pass to make it 22-6 with 6:35 left in the third quarter. The only other action in the game was a nice one-handed interception by Senior Defensive Lineman Ryan Heji. The Skippers prevailed 22-6. They will play the same St. John Heralds next week at Spire Institute in Geneva kickoff 7 p.m.
