(EASTLAKE, OH) - On Saturday night the Lake County Captains snapped their three-game skid beating the West Michigan Whitecaps 6-4 to take the opening game of their three-game series. Sunday night was Harry Potter Night at Classic Park and the Whitecaps had more magic in their wand as they beat the Captains 6-5 sending the 4,458 home unhappy.
The Whitecaps jumped out to a 4-0 lead with one run in the second inning and three more in the third off Captains starter Zach Draper.

The Captains closed to within one run in the fourth inning scoring three runs. The runs came courtesy of the long ball. With two outs in the inning Clark Scolamiero singled. Miguel Jerez then came to the plate and belted his 10th home run of the season over the center field fence to pull the Captains to within two runs at 4-2. Josh Rolette who had a ground rule double in the third inning blasted his first home run of the season over the right field wall on to the grass to cut the West Michigan lead to 4-3.

The Whitecaps came back with a run in the fifth inning when Draper gave up two consecutive triples to Parker Meadows and Riley Greene. Greene was the last batter Draper faced and was replaced by Luis Valdez.

The Captains picked up their fourth run to pull to within one run at 5-4. Daniel Schneemann doubled and later scored on a wild pitch by West Michigan starter Brad Bass.

Both teams added a run in the eight inning. The Whitecaps run came off Captains reliever Skylar Arias. The Captains run came off the bat of Bo Naylor when he belted his 10th homer of the season over the left field wall.

Bass picked up the win for the Whitecaps and improves to 4-3 with a 2.98 ERA. Chance Kirby who pitched the final two and two thirds inning to preserve the win notched his first save of the season. Draper took the loss for Lake County and falls to 7-3 with a 3.08 ERA.

The Captains and Whitecaps will finish the three-game series on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. Wikel Hernandez, a righthander will be on the mound for West Michigan. Hernandez is 7-6 with a 3.74 ERA. Lefty Matt “Shaggy” Turner will take the hill for the Captains. Shaggy is 2-1 with a 2.29 ERA.
