Captains end season with five straight wins

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains finished off the 2018 season on Monday afternoon at Classic Par against the Lansing Lugnuts. Entering the game, the Captains had won four straight games and finished the season off with their fifth straight win as they won a low scoring affair 3-2. The victory sent the 2,884 fans home happy.

The Lugnuts took the early lead with a single run in the first inning off Captains starter Gregori Vasquez.

The Captains took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when J.J. Berardi led off the inning with a single he then stole second. After Jose Vicente struck out Will Benson drew a base on balls to put men on first and second Mitch Reeves then singled and Berardi trotted home tying the game 1-1. Miguel Eladio followed with a single driving home Benson to give the Captains a 2-1 lead.

Lansing tied the game in the sixth inning with a solo home run off the bat of Samad Taylor. The home run for Taylor was his ninth of the season.

The Captains regained the lead in the seventh inning when Eladio doubled to left field off Lansing reliever Turner Larkins to start the inning. Eladio then stole third base his second theft of the season. Dane Hutcheon then drew a base on balls putting men on first and third for Eric Rodriguez. Rodriguez did his job as he hit a ground ball to shortstop and Eladio crossed home plate, giving Lake County a 3-2 lead.

Dakody Clemmer picked up the win for Lake County in relief. Clemmer pitched two and one third innings allowing two hits and one base on balls while string out two Lugnuts. With the win Clemmer improves to 1-2 with a 3.49 ERA. Larkins too the loss for Loons. Larkin pitched two innings allowing one run, it was earned on two hits. Larkins also issued one base on balls and struck out a batter. With the loss Larkins falls to 4-6 with a 3.68 ERA.

The Captains will be back in action next opening the season on Thursday April 4, 2019 against the Great Lakes Loons. Neither team has announced their starting pitcher..
