(PAINESVILLE, OH) - The Lake Erie College Storm Women’s basketball team came into Thursday night’s matchup with the Michigan Tech University Huskies on a four-game losing skid. The Storm played well in the first half but could not keep up with the talented Michigan Tech game and fell 71-54 to extend the skid to five games.

The Storm looked good in the first half, sticking with the Huskies with the game even 25-25 at half time. Lake Erie struggled from the field in the first half shooting only 28%.

Lake Erie’s Kayla Gabor led all scorers with 12 points in the first half. Lindsay Winter led the Huskies with five points.

The difference in size and talent began to show in the second half for the Huskies as well as some poor decision making by the Storm resulted in a blowout. The third quarter was ugly as the Huskies outscored the Storm 23-16 and never looked back.

Things got progressively worse as the Storms defense faltered with even a larger gap in the fourth quarter as the Huskies dominated the Storm 23-13.

Michigan Tech’s Brenna Heise was the game’s leading scorer with 22. 18 of Heise’s point came in the second half. Heise also had a double-double as she brought down 12 rebounds, seven on the defensive end for the Huskies. Christine Dawson led the Storm in scoring in the losing effort with 18 points. Gabor also had 17 for Lake Erie.

The Storm will be in action next on Saturday when they take on the Northern Michigan University Wildcats at 1:00 at The Osborne Center.
